2. What can I expect from an eye test

Comprehensive eye examinations with our optometrists take approximately 45 to 60 minutes depending on the tests you require. Our optometrists will guide you through a wide array of tests to assess your current visual and eye health status.

We view an optical prescription not just as a set of numbers but as a tailored solution. Book your comprehensive eye examination with us today!

3. How often should I have an eye examination

We recommend having an eye examination at least once every two years, even if you are not experiencing any noticeable vision problems.

Many eye diseases, such as glaucoma and macular degeneration, often have no symptoms in the early stages. Regular eye exams allow optometrists to detect and treat these conditions early, which can significantly improve prognosis and prevent vision loss. Additionally, routine eye exams are essential for monitoring changes in vision and updating prescriptions for glasses or contact lenses.

Your eyesight can fluctuate over time, and regular check-ups ensure that your visual needs are adequately addressed. If you have specific concerns about your vision or notice any changes in your eyesight between appointments, schedule an examination now.

4. Are all optical lenses the same?

Not all lenses are created equal. As technology advances, so do lens designs, and we pride ourselves on staying up to date with the latest offerings. Working with international lens companies Essilor and Hoya, we ensure our clients have access to the most technologically advanced lenses on the market. Our optical technicians will investigate your lens requirements, and tailor make lenses to best suit your lifestyle.

5. What options do you offer for myopia control

Myopia, also known as short-sightedness, is a condition where the eye is too long or too powerful, resulting in blurred distance vision. Vision for close objects will be clear within a certain range.

During adolescence the degree of Myopia will increase as the body grows. Higher degrees of myopia increase the risk of eye disease developing in the future. Fortunately, we can reduce the progression of Myopia using a variety of methods.

At Nicholls Optometrists we offer orthokeratology lenses, soft contact lenses, myopia control spectacle lenses and atropine eye drops to control myopic progression. Find out more here…..

6. Do you see children?

Yes, we are well equipped to test children’s eyes. Should you suspect your child is experiencing vision challenges, please reach out to us to arrange an eye examination. It’s advisable to call us directly rather than booking online, as we may need to allocate additional time for the appointment based on your child’s age and needs. Additionally, we offer a diverse selection of children’s frames should glasses be necessary.

7. Interested in contact lenses?

In order to properly fit contact lenses, we would need to see you for a comprehensive eye examination first. This will allow us to establish your visual requirements, measure the corneal curvature, and determine if contact lenses are an option for you.

Our optometrists will then explain the contact lens options available to you – whether that be daily disposable, extended wear, or rigid gas permeable. We will then schedule an appointment to teach you the correct insertion and removal techniques, and provide you with lenses to trial before ordering.

8. Do you work with insurance companies?

If you have broken or damaged your glasses, we can assist you in working with your insurance company. Simply provide us with your claim number, and we’ll handle the communication with your insurance company to obtain approval for your replacement.

If you have Southern Cross optical cover as part of your health insurance policy, we can directly process your claim through the Easy-Claim portal.

9. Do I need to be dilated?

Dilation involves instilling drops into the eyes to enlarge the pupil and provide the optometrist with a clearer view of your retina. Dilation is performed on indication and is not part of our routine eye examinations. Some indications for dilation include symptoms such as flashing lights or new floaters, unexplained visual decline, or high myopia.

10. Eye emergencies

In the case of an eye emergency during business hours, call us on 09 4792316. We often reserve acute appointments and will do our best to fit you in. If the emergency occurs outside of business hours or if we are unable to fit you in, the closest Acute Eye Clinic is located in Greenlane Hospital.
