Christine and her family immigrated to New Zealand from Korea when she was seven years old. While attending high school at Rangitoto College, she visited an ophthalmology clinic with her mother where she saw first-hand the importance of early detection of eye conditions to preserve vision and maximise quality of life.

After completing her first year of biomedical science at the University of Auckland, Christine then went on to complete her Bachelor Of Optometry degree with Honours. Christine has a particular interest in myopia control, and having worn orthokeratology lenses herself is well aware of the impact they can have on patients’ lifestyles. She thoroughly enjoys using her knowledge to work with patients in the area of myopia control with the goal of correcting vision, and reducing the risk of long term eye disease.

During her university breaks, Christine actively participated in a research project focused on investigating retinal markers in the initial phases of diabetic retinopathy. In her final year, she was involved in a study investigating the relationship between retinal cells and myopia, as well as the effect of blue light on the myopic eye.

Outside of work, Christine enjoys spending time with friends and family. She is a talented musician, playing both the violin and piano. A passionate foodie, Christine loves trying out new cafes and restaurants around Auckland.
